Hope Evo cranks. Fakery?

And the response that started it all when I notified him they were verified fake by hope and I'd like to return them for a refund:

Hi I don’t do refunds see listing, I purchased of fb marketplace for more than you bought them for, sorry!
I did not know they were fake, just looked like nice cranks.

I had similar messages from a guy I bought a set of used RaceFace cranks where taper on DS crank was effed, which he was aware of from his wording of auction on ebay. Ignored him until ebay ruled in my favour for a not as desribed with full refund, return postage label from ebay and he couldn't refuse them, the postie/courier merely had to turn up on his doorstep and kerching full refund in my Paypal account.

Hope you can still make a not as described claim.

Sounds like he's being a bit threatening. I'd ping that onto eBay too as threatening messages aren't accepted by them at all and they take a dim view of it. I'd just reiterate to him that you'll happily send back if he refunds in full via an eBay agreement, and that's the only way. He needs to cover postage. Any further threatening messages will result in him being reported to the police for both selling counterfeit goods, and behaving in a threatening manner online. Sounds like a bellend. What's his user ID so we can avoid him?
I've not had to do that before, how would I do that? His wording is certainly on the threatening side for sure.

Hers the monologue so far, in order of receipt:

Ok… so you won’t send back!
I will come and get them but won’t be till end of June beginning of July, I’ll ring you when I’m coming as will be in Surrey.
I’ll then give you your £7 back as well

19:01
You have not paid for them they are not yours, and I don’t care what eBay says, I’m getting them back!

19:02
Can you tell I’m P’ed off with eBay… won’t be using eBay again

iifhe doesn't accept returns but sells fake goods, he brought this on himself.
You don't have to return it but he has to give you a refund.

Deffo report to ebay, maybe mention the police.
👍

I’ve touched on this earlier but I do find it amusing the outrage fake goods causes (I hate fake stuff too) but we openly allow it to be sold on this site.

I'm not going to post it but it is I assume the seller on the offer of partial refund in ishaw's post 39.

In order to keep track of this seller I checked him out, he only had a Sram chainring for sale for £40, put it on watch.
About 10/15 minutes later got an offer to buy it now for £30, checked listing on ebay and it was "ended by the seller on Wed, 5 Jun at 7:05 PM because the item is no longer available" Seems like he has gone in the huff and maybe left the building.

I think the bigger issue is that they are a current product from a current company and sold as real. A repro of a long out of production product from a long defunct manufacturer is a very different proposition.

If you've already got an open dispute I think you can report it via that, or if not you can (I recall) simply report the seller for selling fake items. It's a while since I've done it though.

To me it isn’t. Both are fake.

Sellers like to use the word reproduction but they aren’t. Once you add that Syncros / Ringle logo to the item or description it’s exactly the same situation as Aliexpress.

If they were produced by the same company (like smoke/darts) then re-pro is the term.

It baffles me that it’s accepted in the community where items are sold between people and at some point that re-pro will be passed off as a real item.

I've been through the dispute process, you have to start that off before you can asked eBay to step in, which is why I did so. I was not expecting the partial refund offer soon after and as it didn't require me to send the item back, I just thought I'd go for it to save the hassle.

Now I wish I'd waited, asked eBay to step in as that way I'd have got the full refund and return postage covered.

Now I have the idle threat of them" getting it back no matter what eBay says' and the promise to come and collect it.

So much for saving any hassle.
