Yet1 more project - update

Well I'm pleased with it.

Been after a 575 for a while. Nearly all on ebay have been Medium frame and any Large frame were the earlier design with the hollow triangular join in the top tube.
$_35.JPG

Just by chance I did a search and this one came up, farily local too - the 25th anniversary model in contrasting blue/yellow colour (preferable to black, silver, white, blue, blue white). Only 250 were made of which there is less than 249 on the tracks (I have document showing this frame is a warranty replacement of another ltd ed).

Now to decide how to build it up. I am doing my best to use the bits I have taken off and replaced by lighter components so they are not my first choice. I think I will be using Easton parts (bars, post and stem - if they make one) to go with the easton wheels*. Hopefully can get them for a £ 100-200 budget.

Need to resist buying bits such as light non-q/r seatrpost clamp and dark blue anodised headset spacers .....) :(

* argghh just seen one with yellow rims ... now there's a idea ..... :( apart from the yellow seatpost and non-mathcing chain rings, that looks quite nice.

Pulled together the parts I had lying round so just need a set of 3x9 shifters and it's rideable.

looking to get a set of wheels with yellow rims or a pair that are lighter than the Havoc, oh and a black saddle.

I had the older 'knuckle' frame. They're great fun, quick bikes. The newer frames were stiffer and should handle even better

Re: Yet1 more project - now ridden

it is meant to be very warm (so presumably no rain) this weekend so will take it out on a shakedown.

since the photo was taken, a set of XT shifters have been fitted as well as the front brake hose trimmed to size.

------------------------ update ------------------
ridde it and nothing fell off, including me!! need to bring in the shifters/brakes inboard and adjust the reach of brake levers ....... but fork judders under braking :( so will check they have correct oil otherwise it is bush replacement time :(

Update on juddering forks. This can be due to a number of things: too large or damaged disc, disc rotor with big holes, worn fork bushings, loose headset or no oil in forks.

I suspescted worn bushing so took them apart today to discover one leg devoid of oil and other had 1/4 teaspoon.

I had ridden less than 5 miles. The stanchion in the leg without oil, the gold colour teflon shows wear in a couple of places - not really a problem but probably could have been avoided had I checked oil levels. Yes, I am rather cross with myself.

So the lesson here is if you have bought S/H suspension forks, take 15 minutes to check the oil!!

From Fox FAQ: (implying there needs to be layer of oil between the bushes/stanchions)
There's play in my Fork bushings, what should I do?

A. FOX Forx use hydrodynamic lubrication. In order for this technolgy to work correctly there is required to be clearence between the bushes and upper tubes (stanchions). In most cases clearance becomes more apparent when your fork is overdue seal and foam ring maintenance and therefore there's insufficient lubrication between the bushes and upper tubes.

why is it fox forks seem a pain to live with if you dont mother them thats it your looking at new stanchions yet my trusted old marzocchi i have had z1s drop offs and 888s give them a quick wash down after a ride sorted for the next time but my fox 32s its a wash and lubricate and sing a lullaby just so they self destruct what gives ??????
