Yankee Funk - BEING REBUILT

Re: Yankee Funk - FINISHED

That looks/is great - with a bike like that even I could pull a 100 yard wheelie - with one hand waving to the crowd.

Re: Yankee Funk - FINISHED

I found a picture of the funk I had back in the day that inspired me to find another and build this one. Not great quality but I'd have it back and have two if I knew where it was. Last seen in the Lakes.

That's exactly the same model as mine inc the forks. Actually a Durango not a Pro Comp.

It would be nice to think my old frame ended up somewhere nice but I suspect its different as I didnt sell it with the forks. BUT it was a great bike and yes, sold named by Funk as a Durango but not really much different to the old Pro Comp. The forks in the picture went back for a repair and came back with purple adjusters and new stancions. So they were probably ones that didnt crack . . . that is until I hamfisted them when I was servicing them and over tightened them, D'oh!

Re: Yankee Funk - FINISHED

Sounds like the forks were repaired with Manitou parts....not uncommon. I am running Manitou Sport (Easton) alloy stantions in mine although I do have the originals and there is nothing wrong with them....you just don't want to take that risk though :D :D I did actually think it was the earlier fork design that had the heat treatment problem and this version with the triangular brace were the ones that were fixed. Guess it was too late by then though as the damage was done.

I've had my Funk from new so its defo not your old one :D

I'd buy it back tomorrow if I knew where it was. I used the sale to help buy a Ti Ibis so I am not complaining. :)

Re: Yankee Funk - FINISHED

Holey thread resurrection.
I stripped the bike and have sent it for a repaint. Now this frame has a weird paintjob, nobody can deny finding a stars and stripes bike in Leeds is an odd thing. And there are old pics online of a identical frame in mainland Europe so I guess this bike has been around the block.

Whats interesting is that the bike is being repainted in the States and as part of this the question on how many stars the frame has on it. Apparently 38. As each state joined the American union a new star was added. In 1887 it had 38. A few years later it had more when a few more states joined simultaneously. One of them being Colorado where the frame clearly came from.

I have no idea, but maybe this frame is painted to represent a pre-union moment in Colorado. Or some other moment the owner wanted to celebrate.

Just mulling strange stories over. Its like a ghost story with an old house.

Just thought I'd share these pictures, the new paint job was completed by the guys at Vicious, looks good imho and better than when it started. I ummed and ahhed about changing the colour but in all honesty just decided to keep it original even though I am a brit and the bike will be a UK bike.
