Yankee Funk - BEING REBUILT

Re: Look at what just got delivered : The Yankee Funk Build

racer x - yep left the spacers in for now as didnt want to cut the precious steerer down too much until I get to ride it and see about position. It took ages to find a long enough steerer/crown combo.

Re: Look at what just got delivered : The Yankee Funk Build

hurraaah! seatpost sourced, from German ebay a ringle moby in silver almost new looking and the right size, no shim needed. once it arrives and the colour coded cables, i should be able to finish this and go for a test ride... no doubt it will then need a new stem, maybe a steerer cut, maybe new chainrings if the chain slips and and and ... ah the joys. ;)

Re: Look at what just got delivered : The Yankee Funk Build

A couple of update build pics. I decided to build a spare rear wheel and save wobbly the tioga disk drive ;) Hub arrived this morning:

I also sourced, finally a seatpost from Germany. The smudge marks on the logo are my finger prints from greasing the post before putting into the frame... and yes 31.6 mm is weirdly a perfect fit:

Re: Look at what just got delivered : The Yankee Funk Build

over the weekend I found some time to build, huzzah.

I even took her for a little spin and reminded myself just how narrow old bars are compared to newer style and how low they are, eeek. and we used to race them like that. haha.

First decision is if the white cables along the top tube would be better red, I think so and have ordered some.

Then I need to shorten / trim the red cables a little and fit a front mech.

Ooooh and finally having bounced the forks a few times, they clearly need a service and new elastomers. :D

BOTM winner there. Stunning looking bike !

Re: Look at what just got delivered : The Yankee Funk Build

thanks for the compliment :) but I suspect its way too far away from being period correct to make the mark.

Re: Look at what just got delivered : The Yankee Funk Build

Very loevely build so far!
I wouldn't mount outer cabls along the top tube at all, it distracts to much.
My perfect build would be seatpost in white, stem and forks blue with white stars and white handlebars.

Re: Look at what just got delivered : The Yankee Funk Build

:) they arent outer cables, they are narrower cables, thinner and will protect the top tube from the scratches cables inevitably leave on the paint work. I'm still thinking about getting the fork painted to match and will stand back once the rest is finished and decide... with this colour scheme I am going slowly!!! evolution. steady as she goes until it feels balanced.

:) :)

Re: Look at what just got delivered : The Yankee Funk Build

I know what cables these are, couldn't come up with the name being Dutch :)
What I mean is that using coulered cables in that erea makes it to busy with colours, either you use white or red. Also the Funk decal gets hidden, what is a pitty imo.
I tottaly understand you want to protect the frame, I would use protective frame tape instead.

Re: Look at what just got delivered : The Yankee Funk Build

we'll agree to disagree. :)

they are called silicon rig cables or something, used mostly in fishing apparently.

Hiding the decal is a shame I agree, but I dont think its original, I found a photo on a German website of a funk with spookily the same paint job, it must be the same frame. How many Funks have this paint job! ha. Only one I suspect. The build in this old picture has hydraulic rim brakes so doesnt need the top tube cable runs and so the decal is visable.

The red silicon rig cables should arrive today or tomorrow and I'll see if that looks better than the whites, but either way they will be cabled to protect the paint. cable rub is my pet hate and I usually find that tape peels off / lifts eventually ;)
