XTR ‘Grey’ Cables

Hi,

Did Shimano offer different shades of grey for the XTR cable outers or do the brake and gear cables match perfectly ?

Was the grey stuff only available in XTR ? If it wasn’t, is the non XTR grey outer the same colour as the XTR grey outer ?

I know the XTR gear cables are sealed with the internal O rings and the extended rubber boot seals, do the brake cables match / use a similar design ?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Re:

The only XTR grey cables I know of are the M950 ones:

They are a slightly darker grey than the standard shimano grey cable you can get by the box. You can see the slightly different tone on my Yo Eddy. Still kinda bugs me when I see it :?

Nothing too fancy about them. Just cables with a nice cap. They may have an O ring, but I have not checked.

M900 style...

They came out with grey for M900 in 93. My 93 Barracuda A2X had it. Hard to come by now. Picked up a few feet of it at the LBS a few months ago, just in case. :D

"You ever sell any of this?"
"<laugh> No. You want it?"
"Sold."

Thanks gents, both very nice bikes ...

On both bikes, there does seem to be a slight shade difference between the gear and the brake outers - is there, or is it just how the cameras caught the light ?

@ FMJ - you seem a magnet for cool stuff dude ...

Cheers,

The cables I have are from two separate sources, and they're close in colour but not exact.
It's also worth noting that the actual construction is different between the gear and brake cables, which both reflect light (and ultimately their colour) in a slightly different way too.
