Ah, as in drilled right through the body so the hole is all the way through, screw up from the underside into a nut on top?! Pretty unsightly yes/no? Perfunctory no doubt!

Yep, that's also what I did.
You could helicoil the stripped body, but it's tricky.
Alternatively, you could fill the hole with JB Weld and try re-tapping.

As others have done, you can deffo drill though for the helicoil, but it will take a tiny bit of the bolt side with it. It shouldn't matter as you should have enough rim left to hold the head of the bolt.

I've done it on lots of suntour ( they seem to get stripped by gorillas more) and a couple of xt ones.
