Hey Guys!

Winter is coming up, even here in Austria.

Some may recognized it, in my free time I am servicing and rebuilding good ol' sids and set them up for kids bikes. That means I clean and repare them, replace all serviceable small parts, get them back to a 2nd life for riders between 25 and 50kg. As it is a hobby, I don't earn money for it, I just need to cover my own costs and provide them esp. over the biggest german bike forum www.mtb-news.de (where I am moderator of kids bike subforum).

You ask why? That's easy. There are just a couple of sollutions for a small kid riding a 24" or small 26" bike. F1rst Air is an "Out of Box" sollution, but I don't like it. It is a cheap fork anyhow and that is, what it feels like for me. Going rigid is hard - my son (9yo) had to start rigid, and the handling improved massive as we mounted a suspension fork. ;) What else? If it should be lightweight and cheap, and work well, ähm - yes, you see: not as easy... Sids are perfekt. ;)

My storage is a bit empty, I would like to ask you guys, if you have an unused, damaged or ugly SID laying around, which you don't want to ride anymore please feel free to drop me a pm. My goal is to get as many kids as possible go cycling and have fun with special tuned forks for there needs. Would be great if you can help me (and them) out. I would take any of them as long I can effort it. I also would take any spares (steerers, internals, etc.). I can also share information to parents who want to tune these forks to a childs weight or need spares to reduce weight.

thx for you message,
yours
Markus

Re:

What do you do to fit the 24" wheels ?
or do you go disc?

Interested in the tuning (one or both sides?)
since my kid is riding a 24" at the moment but will move to 26" as he will soon grow a bit more.

If one or two sides needs to be tuned: Depends on the fork. Please send me a picture of your fork via PM, I will respond in a few days.

For the brake issue, I personally recommend to use disc brakes as soon as possible. It needs less hand force to get good braking performance. In case you need to use v-brakes: The guys building up bikes like that use special adapters to get the mounting bolt lower. Please do also send a question via PM if you need advice, brand or pictures, writing from my mobile right now.

Re:

I know quite a bit about the forks and wondered if you dropped to using one side for the spring instead of both.
I'm more to modifying the older forks as the Mag21s do well at this as well, though not for disc brakes.
Same adapter principle there as well.
