Dirt Disciple
Hello! I'm new here. I was wondering if I could get some help putting together my dad's old bike, I think he'd want to see it used.

This was the se with the odd blue anodised cantis, gripshift 600, and stx rc: 1995?

I want to put it back in some kind of order but mostly to ride so I have some particular spec ideas.

I have the frame and forks and headset and seat binder and bar/ends out of the original spec that works.

Of the stuff I'm a bit worried about are
the shifters, with no shims between the edge and the grips.
The stx rc chainset which someone has taken apart and now seems to be missing spacers/washers: normal chainring bolts don't hold it together tightly.
The brakes. I have pads and the blue and silver bits but think have lots the internals, but wondered if other canti internals can be used.
I have the mechs, they aren't looking too clever.

I need
A long stem with a brake hanger, at least a back wheel (for now I have a choice of two OK front wheels), brake levers (dia compe pc 7's anyone? I actually have one), a cassette.

I can make do with the seat/post, pedals, tyres, chain. EDIT I mean here that I already have these bits.

Ideally I'd like an old flite, thumbies/rapidfire instead of gripshift, nice wheels.

So basically I'm asking for any kind of help 'give up on the original brakes'/ 'do this to make chainset hold together' and for people to sell me what I have listed above.

PM'd - pic of STX Chainset might help with the bolts issue, there were a couple of types of these, one with rings that bolted to itself and one normal type. The former from memory needs spacers and stuff (only know as I borrowed heavily to get an M900 crank going).

All of the stuff you need comes up for sale regularly here... I'm sure you will eventually find everything you need...

T'is a 95... always fancied one with those Marin lite canti's... On which, as long as you can get springs to fit, it won't be a problem as you manually tension the springs when setting them up..
