Wrong time to sell?

I’m potentially going to put my high(ish) spec Pace RC200 F2 up for sale. It’s not really something I want to do but may not have a choice
What’s people’s views on the current selling climate, would I be better off waiting until after the winter with all the stuff going on at the moment, or does it not really matter?

Personally I don’t think it matters once you get above a certain price.

Let’s be honest , nobody is buying a RC200 to ride solely as their only bike and it’s likely more as a ornament/hobby and finances are likely less affected in this group.

However the covid bubble has burst so don’t expect it to bounce back to prior prices this/last year.

A decent RC200 is £700-1000. Anymore they simply sit forever for sale unless a very special build.

Its all trend driven. If SM suddenly starts featuring an iconic retro and everybody of a certain age starts cooing, then the price is strong. Sadly IMO many of these bikes have finally been reduced to an objet d’art.

Not much seems to be selling atm. No surprise as most people are worried about their bills. Not just retro either.

Personally, I'm waiting until after Xmas when the bills start coming in to hopefully pick up a nice bike that someone bought during lockdown and now needs to sell it to pay said bills. Feels only fair given how much these "ridden 3 times, selling due to change in hobby" casuals drove up prices.

Selling right now is a struggle, especially compared to the Covid market.

That being said, I've had good luck (eventually) in the local market for some things. High end parts have been selling well, forks, meh, frames, meh.

I'd look into what you're trying to get for the bike & what individual parts would sell for. Parting out a bike brings in more money than a full bike most of the time, that's just a general rule. At least in the US is seams that Ebay pricing is up, due to our new tax laws. Used to be able to skip taxes until $20k or 200 sales. Now it's @ $600. That includes Paypal, venmo, etsy... Anyway, It's had a cooling affect on sales & has propped up prices another 10-20%.

But it doesn't hurt to shop it around, make sure it's all tuned up and ready to go.

All the ones who purchased in lockdown all want “lockdown money” for their bikes. That’s the issue. They’ve pumped £1500 into building a £400 bike and won’t be convinced otherwise

Not necessarily. People get emotionally involved in the value. Take a quick look at eBay a true bikes which have been listed for years at silly prices as that’s the amount the owner has decided it’s worth.

Only 7 ? You need to get a wriggle on to make that a respectable retrobike number before the years out.

Don’t get me wrong I’m waiting for anything coming up over winter but lockdown buyers are the worst. You are much better waiting for Derek and Doris being so skint that can’t turn the heating on so Derek is forced to sell his 1 owner Ti Merlin with M900’for this months bill
