if i were to put '94 decals on my 98 hei hei kahuna?
the frame currently has no downtube/name stickers, and im really not keen on the flowery ones with the bulgy kona writing. i much prefer the simple silver 94 lettering... obviously i wont be able to get the right name badge but i can live without that. 94 has always been their finest year for me in terms of looks.
mr bikepimps hei hei is pretty much spot on what i mean:

i know its my bike and i can do what i like etc.. but i dont want to be crucified or burned as a heretic next time i come accross a kona fan! :p

If you like it, go for it. Besides, not that you want to make it look older, but ´98 and ´94 frames look the same (sorry if i´m wrong...)

I would do it.

Yes, go for it. As you say, the '94 decals were pretty much the classiest that Kona ever used and the flowery ones look slightly ridiculous IMHO...

Its your bike mate. You have to build whatever makes you happy, and if that means non orig then so be it! Just my 2p worth of course.

Decals are important - and being happy with them even more so.

Does anybody prefer the new Merlin MTB decals to the old ones? No. Will they provide a new bike with the old ones on if you ask? Yes.

It's your bike!

IMO, you shouldnt do it. Bit like putting XR3i stickers on the back of a normal Escort, you know, making it something it isn't.
However, having a frame with no decals is fine, but not period incorrect. Just IMO though

I'd do whatever you want with it :) I think Pickle would be right if you were putting Hei Hei transfers on a Hahanna or something but your not so go for it :)

morning all
thanks a lot for the feedback - i really appreciate both sides of opinions!
i think the plan is gonna be to go for the 94 stickers, but as i mentioned before, not put a hei-hei sticker on, just leave it blank instead... the stickers on hei hei's / kahunas seem to vary a bit anyways from the factory. i know it wont be period correct, but its something i never worried about before really - as long as i dont sit there looking at decals ive paid good money for but im not that happy with then all will be well.

i dont really see it being a normal escort/xr3i thing, more like the hei hei is the escort cosworth to start with and the hhkk is a bit more like the rally-proofed version if that makes sense! kinda the same thing but a bit different! :p :D
