Wot happened to fat bikes

I saw one yesterday, a teenager was riding it on the pavement, fighting the drag and making a lot of noise with the tyres.

Lol you can hear a Phat bike coming although I don’t think anyone is going ever going to get knocked over by one since they mostly amble along at a very sedate pace

Hmmm….since the road community has gone fat (30 instead of 23) and tests show 30 needs 152watts rather than 166 for 26….

But when does that switch? at what width do the gains vanish?

Amazingly a mountain bike was fastest on the Paris Roubaix cobbles!

Geilo, Norway..took park in Fat Viking 2023 and back for 2024
I'm going to Venabu for two weeks next March but I'm not planning on taking a bike. I'm hoping that my straightened foot will allow me to XC ski again. Last time I was there I didn't see any fat bike hire, but perhaps there will be now?

They're still quite useful here in the frozen north. For approximately half the year, the only bikes allowed in the trails are fat bikes. Skinny tires cut through the snow and damage the ground underneath. Also apparently quite popular with the Florida set, the fat tires are quite capable on the sandy terrain. It's absolutely a niche, but one I want to be in. Giant made one for Costco with Deore 10 speed that I'd love to try p4pb20104878 (1).jpg

Great picture. Where abouts was this?

You can rent Fatbikes from Nina at GeiloAktiv. But I realise you are a fair bit further up than that. There is a shop in Oslo you can hire Fatbikes from
