Back up commuter in rotation: Repco Superlite.
Old 'bike boom-era' Repcos still make for popular commuter / pub / work bikes here in Melbourne, from well maintained 'originals', to messenger-esque builds and modern townies.
Mine was a hard-rubbish find, completely stripped and re-assembled with cherry-picked parts from other hard-rubbish finds.
I originally set it up with 1x7 gearing but just this week re-instated a front derailleur and chainrings as I'd like to put some decent milage on it again (commute is ~50km / day) and the 40T up front was begining to be a little limiting. Brakes were originally budget side-pulls which I replaced with Dia Compe centrepulls for the original build which just cleared the 28c tyres + fenders. I've have since swapped to a set of Mafac Racers, simply as the Mafacs cost me the same as fresh brakepads for the DC's, and they came with a sweet little integrated front rack.
