Interesting. It might be possible to make a 'hybrid' version of this bike by taking a regular steel/Al frame, chopping out most of the top tube, down tube and chainstay tubes (to leave a short butt at each welded end) and replacing the missing lengths with identically sized hickory inserts.

I remember one of my neighbours in the 60s who rode track had a bamboo framed race bike.
