Wind!

I went up on the Mendips for a recce of the Mendip Mauler Road Ride. It was a little breezy up top and I got blown up Cheddar Gorge till I got to the steep bit and the wind suddenly came from the other direction and I was in trouble on the 42 x 24. Made it though and it was a blast. :D

16% straight line descents on wet muddy roads straight off the top of the mendips  It got a bit hairy going into Blagdon good speed and a hefty cross wind. A true pants filler

At first I thought one tree, go and fire up the Pajero and tug it out of the road, but then I walked on and found at least ten had been uprooted and several snapped. Tractor and chainsaw tomorrow!

And i shall be dropping you a line about all this windblown timber :D Fancy a big dining table ;)

I love being out and about in the extreme weather. It reminds me of being a lad, and my grandpa taking me out to fix the shed door that blew open in a blizzard, which in his view should involve reversing a tractor up to it and pushing it shut, then dumping a trailer of logs up against it to keep it shut until the gales blew out. I don't head into the hills in these conditions though. My grandpa taught me better.

The wind was pretty bad here today but this evening the River Humber decided to to explore Hull!

That is the one thing living up the hill saves you from, the flooding.

I would rather lose a shed roof and a few tiles than all my worldly goods getting soaked!

Somerset can get some pretty extreme snow, good farming country seems to attract the weather doesn't it?

It does make me think hard about the Philippines when we go out and sweep up leaves and fix down bird tables.

Tens of thousands of people living hand to mouth have lost their homes, and are living in severely reduced circumstances.

Terribly sad.
