Why? Just why?

Here’s one bodge I made for the Dogsbolx. A chain suck device made from a cut down Ringle original. I had bolt mounts fitted to the chain stay when the Bike frame was made. I also cut down chain side plates stacked onto the mounting bolts to act as guides for the derailleur cable to line up with the chain stay.

I bought a 1996 M900 that had been stripped and put back together with poor parts. Still had the p-bone and coda crank/cantis so I bought it hoping to bring it back to its best. Two dents hidden behind tape that a bag strap was covering put the nail in the coffin for the bike.

But the worse bit was the handle bars. Someone had cut the bars, then pinned them with a bar. They then covered it with yellow tape. The bars were awful quality bars so not worth saving…so an unbelievable thing to do and I was gob smacked!!

Wish I had a pic but I bought a Klein Attitude around 8/10 years ago to strip and flip and it had been resprayed. The reason for the paint was that where the cables exit the downtube had rotten through and been filled with fibreglass.

One of those strange things that almost nobody I knew experienced it. I think had chainsuck on a bike exactly once. It's almost like it was made up to sell more crap.

Before my DOGSBOLX I had a White Spider and that suffered a chronic chain suck incident while riding in the Mendips. The chain virtually carved all the way through the chain stay. After that experience I decided to fit a chain suck device on the DOGSBOLX. 🙂

That does remind me. I have a lovely Saracen kili, bought online. Seller didn't mention that at some point the BB and chainset were replaced with the cheapest, nastiest I've ever some across, the BB was too short and the chain ring ate through the chain stay.

At least there was a reason for this damage, kleins did that by default didn't they.
