...early Claud Butler/ Dawes MTBs?

Just been trawling ebay to take my mind off feeling as if I've been run over by a multi axled vehicle (the M6 hard shoulder is no place to be throwing up on) and found lots of good old lugged Dawes & Claud Butlers in various states of repair from near NOS to skip only.

Whats your secret MTB love?

ahhh the mighty dawes widlcat or the Cb cape wrath lugged magic. Not light but still great, when MTB was about trekking and things that were built proper not just for racing.

I bought fork lugs...not sure why as i don't have a lugged frame to put them on.

Biek love is ligal in most forms don't worry.

I really liked/like the Dawes The Edge bikes circa 1993.

I nearly bought one but trend make me buy an Orange

dont tell anyone but i have a small fancy of old:

MBK
Look
Raleigh (with lugs).

Not cool or exotic but there were great value. I liked MBK's in-external brazing as it looked neat but did not like all the warrentee replacement i did back in the day.

I like what I like really. There's no guilty secrets.

1980s Peugeots are probably my favourite bikes, but I think lugged Claud Butlers and British Eagles were cool too.

I never thought my 1989 'Butler was that special until I got my Saracen recently. Detailing on the 'Butler frame is far better and the Saracen only has it beat on paint job and rear tyre clearance. The fact the Saracen cost 1.5x as much new beggars belief

I've got a funny feeling that I'm going to spend years/thousands sampling all sorts of alternatives and I'll end up back on lugged Reynolds
