I got to know him quite well in his later years when he went truck racing as my dad had some involvement with DAF trucks and actually painted his race truck
He was really mellow and always had plenty of time for me and our kid. I have some cool pics of him at one of our BBQs in the late 80's but wont show them because I have a terrible mullet on my head

I remember seeing Barry at silverstone mid 80's in his DAF. Very cool! Had a signed pic from him from that day. Also remember supervan 1 and a rocket wheeling truck being there!
Cheers for the memory jog Si!

@MJN, N.Abe was a good rider and a hero in Japan, exciting to watch to, he won 3 races in 500cc, '96 Japan, '99 Brazil and '00 Japan, he was killed in road crash on his bike in Japan at '07, a sad loss.
@Grannygrinder  'Only rider i didn't like was Alex Crivielle, if he hadn't have had Doohan to tow him round he'd have done f*ck all'
the question was simply asking who is your favourite not who you hate? surely you should have know better when Doohan won 5 world championship in a row, it was only his team mate Criville that kept up with him, nobody else and it was good to watch them battle out, (no different what we are seeing with Rossi and Loronzo now) of course Doohan was better and won the most races. so you can do better than Criville from your armchair and a few beers
