Who Still Rides Retrobikes

For £300 I got a ready to roll Zinn and Puch - I wouldn't get anything half as decent if I bought new.

All modern stuff I've tried has no character (granted the only stuff I've tried recently is a Boardman and Carrera though)

Got say i love riding all my retro rides old and new but my Daley ride is 1994 :D iv'e been riding that for over 16 years :D only retro for me

I ride old bikes that were once new, I rode new bikes but preferred the old. It will be a very long time before I'm persuaded to do anything else.

I think we get lost with how old retro bikes are. Generally rides here seem to be late 80s to mid 90s.

20 years ain't that old for a mechanical thing, classic cars, traction engines, motor bikes, steam trains, scooters, vintage hi if etc are all way older.

The thing is that 20 odd years ago there was a magic bubble of creativity, excitement, marketing, fashion, manufacturing etc that led to a golden age.

That's why I ride bikes from these times. New stuff leaves me cold.

I've only got retro. Currently using either the Park Pre (BONA) or a '93 Fire Mountain for both commuting and messing around off road.
The Yeti is a long term rebuild, but will get used when its finished (want to use it at Mayhem next year so better get cracking ;) ). The Manitou, while is rideable, is for very ocassional light use for fear of head tube cracking issues (it hasn't at the moment and I'd like to keep it that way ;) )
Other bikes are in family/friends lofts as I've not got the room for them, but when I have they will be used :D .

...In my opinion I don't want to have a bike museum...seems a waste not to ride them...

I ride my retro bike as much as my newer Marin...evidence below!

NO way.... I have a Retro-Ti project going that will most likely be relegated to the road and occasionally get dirty. And the Stumpjumper I just picked up, with luck will be ready to get dirty this coming spring.

I say ride 'em hard.

How 'Retro' do you want to go? Just ridden a 1974 frame through the flooded bits around our village and nobody died and no-one was injured during the ride....

There are disquieting murmurs I have noted that suggest some people on here collect but dont actually ride retrobikes anymore

To me this is sacriligeous !!!

The destruction of modern to preserve retro is good but to totally replace retro with modern is bad. Glad to see some/many of you are still true to the cause

I don’t ride retro anymore as religious extremists ruined the experience for me…
