Who else is fed up with EBay fees and withholding payments?

The great thing about ebay was that it was simple and easy to use. You sold something and you got paid for it. It has grown and changed over the years and I personally havent seen it improve. It has sided with the buyer rather than the seller and my wife and I have both had bad experiences.

The biggest positive that ebay has is the amount of users. But I know that users who sell lots of items from the hobbies they are in are moving away from ebay.
FB marketplace is great as it is free, but trying to find things on there isnt the best.

I built my site to be somewhere in the middle. I know it doesnt have the same amount of users as ebay or FB but they have a huge amount of financial backing. I built mine purely for the love of the hobby and to try to help people buy and sell things easily.

Millions of sellers worldwide manage fine with the system. Ebay tell you why they withhold payments; obviously I could list and sell an expensive watch, never send it, receive payment into my account which I then close never to be seen again, who is expected to take the hit on that? Ebay is a business, they loose millions through scammers, they try to minimize this by holding payments on new sellers until they know they are legit, not a bad business plan really, especially considering they end up out of pocket most the time.

Ebay offers both buyer and seller protection.

And the system is not a lot different than buying through another site, and the buyer claiming their money back through pp for goods not as described, one difference is Ebay has a much shorter window for a buyer to use, abuse and damage your item before sending it back than if they just used pp or bank card through another site. No way is perfect, but Ebay for me at least is a lot simpler and fairer to use.

I get your perspective and cant disagree. All things change as they grow, and there are definitely more scammers out there now than there has ever been. Especially in hobbies that have items of value (OS BMX being a good example).

But I doubt they are out of pocket at the end of the financial year.

Just for me as a user for 20 years the changes that have happened haven't been an improvement IMO.

I'm in no way saying dont use it. I was just fed up with how it worked for me recently.

@jimwise68 hello Jim, I’ve just signed up as I was thinking of sticking a few bits up for grabs. I’m probably missing something but I can’t work out how to browse through everything that’s on sale, I can only make specific searches.

Ps. I get it’s a place to advertise parts for free so there’s no checkout basket, but how do you actually buy or contact a seller?

Go on then I’ll say it …….

Infrequent / new sellers should have a hold placed on the funds. Why shouldn’t they have to prove themselves as genuine before being able to receive the funds next day.

It’s not dissimilar to this forum only allowing members to pm after a certain post count. Or obtaining gold status etc.

It’s rules to protect everyone involved and if you don’t agree or like the rules then play elsewhere.

It's a shame that buying and selling has come to this. In ye olde days you advertised something for sale and people would come round and buy it. Due to the facelessness of the internet people are screwing other people over. So having those precautions in place are a good idea. You can never eradicate it totally, it's purely damage limitation.
Same goes for buying and selling on here. Always do your due diligence, and people do, and people still get scammed. I hear it all the time in the other groups I am in for other hobbies and interests I have.

Admittedly it’s a shame that scammers exist. However this is the real world and wherever money is involved there will always be someone trying to take it with deceit.
