colnagokid Retro Guru Sep 16, 2012 #2 corrosion suggest surface oxidisation of the alloy....very fine wire wool (OOO grade) should remove it without damaging the component....

Midlife Retro Wizard Sep 16, 2012 #6 Different reaction.......On chrome the Aluminium foil is more reactive than iron or chrome so it's displaced from the "rust" leaving aluminium oxide and the original metal. In theory Can't get the same reaction from the Aluminium alloy..... Shaun
