Hi, sorry if this has been asked before. But we have a bike that’s been put together from bits. It’s mostly older XT. The shifters are sti. The front derailleur jumps from bottom to too ring and down again when shifting, misses the middle ring. Have I got the wrong derailleur? I just assumed they went where the shifters told them. I’m not the best at setting things up so be gentle. I’ve attached pics of what we have.

you need a slightly older front mech
The current one is for a later generation of shifters that have a slightly different cable pull
try Deore DX , MT60 or MT62, Deore XT M730/ M732 or Deore LX M550 or M560
theres others that fit but they are from older groupsets

Thanks for the reply, makes total sense. When you say size of band, is this the diameter of the seat post tube? If so it’s a little over an inch, about inch and eighth. The seat post itself is an inch. It’s a bottom pull with cable coming from below if that makes any odds. I’d like to take one if that’s ok?

Yes. At the risk of stating the obvious: inner diameter of the band = outer diameter of the seat tube. Standard sizes are: 28.6 mm, 31.8 mm and 34.9 mm. Yours looks like 28.6 mm but the clamp diameter in mm is usually stamped on the inside of the clamp itself, so you can double-check by looking on the derailleur that's already fitted.

Only LX here but if you put up an ad in the wanted section you should get loads
It’s not vital, it has XT rear and shifters. What you want for an LX?
