Which brand and why

No brand loyalty for me as such, but favour Yeti, Kona, Jamis, Park Pre, Answer and have a passion for XT thumbies !!

The one thing that is common on all my retro rides is thumbies If there is a better engineered solution to gear shifting, then I haven't found it yet!

Mountain - not really that fussy TBH.
Like Konas and its a good word to shout when you crest a steep hill: Ko-Nah!!!! (drawn out "o" and emphasis on "nah") as one tries to blast passed the opposition......

Like early Oranges too, although not such a good chanty word.

Breezer is sweet as a nut - but poss down to 7sp drivetrain :?:

What I own is what I always wanted bitd but could never afford. The exception to this is my Avanti which I bought just to get the Manitou 3s that came with it.
