Where is best to start?

Hello all i have a very nice 531 frame with horizontal dropouts which i am looking to convert to SS, where would be best to start?

either have rear wheel re dished if its older style wheel or if newer style buy a spacer kit

You could fit a chain tensioner in place of the rear derailleur.
If you have a rear hub which takes a cassette you could buy a single speed conversion kit containing a sprocket and some spacers. Of course you would need to remove your shifters and possibly buy some shorter chainring bolts

Single speed, not fixed gear.

If you have the wheel already then buy a cassette or freewheel conversion depending on type. Saves buying a new wheel

I mentioned running a tensioner as I thought this was the mountain section and was a mountain bike you were doing! Doh :facepalm: .

I agree with Nick you should be able to run the setup without a tensioner if you have horizontal dropouts.
