wheel building cost.

Having a raod wheel build as we speak. £53.80 at my LBS. Didn't feel i had the skills to do it myself. £0.80/ spoke @ 36 spokes = £28.00 + +vat £10.72=£38.72 leaves £15.08 for time/skills+profit.

Guess they got to make a living....

I think the moral of this story is learn to wheel build!

Unless you are going really lightweight the DT Champion spokes from CRC at £10.99 a wheel are a bargain.

Follow Sheldon Brown's wheelbuilding guide and you can't really go wrong.

DT Revolution spokes cost over £80 a box of 72 from a retailer, so more than a quid a spoke without nipples
Silver Revolutions £46 for 72 from Chain Reaction, including brass nipples. Black ones are £64.

Chain Reaction's cost for a pair of M785/XC717/black Rev wheels built up is £227. The cost of the parts to build yourself is £218. So you only pay £9 for the build and they fund most of it from eating into their profits on the parts.
Ah, I was lazy & just did a google shopping search, didn't look at any specific bike websites

Cheers for the heads up, that's near enough trade prices & madison are out of silver 264mm Revolution spokes and I need some of those spokes for a wheel build

Again, may have said this in the last wheel build thread, but the last time I had a wheel built (usually do my own, but this one needed a specific dish, which I was uncomfortable with), cost me the price of spokes only @£0.80 x 32 = £25.60inc VAT...

I just received a quote for 250GBP for building 2 wheels, and supplying the rims, spokes and nipples. I provide the hubs. This includes a 2-year warranty on breaking spokes and a guarantee that you will NOT have to retension them after a few rides.
