The problem Mayhem has is that it's pretty massive. There aren't that many UK venues that have enough arena/camping space to accommodate it. Other (smaller) UK 24s have, IMO, more entertaining courses. But it's the scale of it that makes Mayhem what it is, really.

Because Mayhem is so big, and attracts such a large amount of riders, having a route with lots of singletrack would require staggering the start.
Last year the funnel caused at the first section of single track was huge, and it was about a mile into the course.
You cant have so many riders all trying to get through a narrow gap

Really must get to it one year ,get the chance for free / paid to go as i work for a bike place but it falls on a family vw show so dont !
Might try for next year as i know it will be a laugh .

To solve this problem at the biggest 24hr over here, they have two ~20km loops (called red and blue). Half the field start on the red and the other half start on the blue and the transtition means when you finish one colour you swap rider (if you wish) and are led out onto the other.

Yes you still get bottlenecks at the first bit of singletrack, but in combination with an uphill start to the laps it makes a massive difference.
