What you don't dare do, people - Ti `98 Voodoo Loa

🤔 ..... good question. I did note the boss was placed rather close to the head-tube.

By '97, down-tube shifters are out for sure, but the bosses seemed to hang-around for a good while - presumably because of the adjusters? A quick look at some top end Colnago Shimano equipped road bikes seems to suggest the down-tube gear lever boss disappeared around 1999 / 2000 in favour of a barrel adjuster insert in a normal cable guide.

I think it will be cool with a down-tube shifter there 🤗:) .... hell, just how often do you need to do a front shift anyway .... and let's not forget CX is mega traditional and change happens at a snail pace in that sport.

Likewise, that's a great find that catalogue. From the geometry (and what a messed up geometry table that is mixing metric and imperial  ) it appears it's got it's roots in MTB Norba geometry. I reckon this wouldn't be far off a modern day Gravel bike at all.

I think so too, especially if I manage to get the one I'm after ;D and with the planned wide range 11spd in the back I imagine it will be used pretty sparingly

That got under my skin too! having to pull up a converter for some of the measurements... what the

Oh wow, you have the 700c forks? I actually came across an older thread of yours about these... on a loa! I wonder if that guy in Japan has Patrick's bike?

I know nothing about the marzocchi's apart from people loving the bomber as a best of it's time fork, but in my limited amount of research I thought the XC 700 was just an evolution of the XC line and a step up from the XC 600.

I can't add a spare fork to this build quite yet but I'd like to know more about the specs, if you've any first hand experiene riding one, and what colors could be done!

Manuals are here : => check my Marzocchi Manuals Repository : http://public-repository.org/
The Inet is full with pictures. Yes, XC700 is almost the same than XC600, the XC700 came also in red. I rode all for many years.

Extends pretty far forward but not beyond the head tube so I think it should work/feel fine, if I can sort the mounting.

The boss has a square like in this post

and this is the cable guide that I pulled off.

Top picture and bottom picture are two different mounting styles but not inclusive of each other. Both photos represent Shimano-style. The top picture is used for older down tube shift levers. The post sticking out acts as a stopper so the shifter lever does not over rotate causing a chain to skip the largest gear on the cassette/freewheel and wedge in between the spokes. You want the "over rotation tab" to point up toward the head tube when installing.

The lower picture is a flush-mount adapter to "fit" the contour of the downtube and works with newer shifter levers like Dura Ace 7400 for example. The non chrome side that integrates with the shifter is also designed with a stopper - the widest tooth. Kind of like a Shimano cassette where there is one wide tooth to ensure alignment on the freewheel. Idiot proof to get the shifter on one way only.
