What/where does everyone do/go for their resprays?

Have you had a look at Armourtex in Hackney? They do shot blasting and powder coating plus clear coating over the top and for a little extra will mask of chrome areas (e.g. chain stay). I've had 3 frames down there now and been very pleased (approx £90 each).

A company I'm using next week for powdercoating is saying it'll be 0.06mm thick.

Doing it at home seems to cost more if you've never done it before and have to buy all the sandpaper etc. It chips very easily even when heating it to dry. The last one I did the lacquer was still soft after 3 weeks. Also the lacquer can be affected by some cleaners etc. Probably a couple of days work.

You can get a good finish but it takes practise:

The expensive paint jobs I've had done have always chipped easily - sometimes after just one ride.......oh the pain of it!

That's my experience of powder coating, you can touch up paint.

I need two colours with white bleeding over into yellow. I'm considering powder coat base yellow, then rattle can spray the white over it.

Like this does on the top tube and down tube...

I'm just not sure this will work - anyone got any advice??

Cheers,

Dont know if it applies to overcoating with paint but Nick at lloyds the decal makers told me he has known problems sticking decals to powder coat. Some coatings seem to have a release effect. Not good if you are wanting paint to stick.I use Chris Marshall at Keighley Yorkshire.First class enamel spraywork and excellent at classic bike re finishing. He is on 01535 691073. Will cost you a lot more than powder coat though but you are guaranteed a good job.

Please do not mention Chris Marshall, the fewer people know about him the quicker he can do the mystery frame which should have arrived from eBay today...

Shame on you :)

Re:

Mention who? Never heard of him!!. However if we dont keep him whom we dont mention and have not ever heard of busy he might not be there when we need him.Lets be honest. There are very few people who dont exist and that we have never heard of who if they did exist could or would do anywhere near as good a job without removing both your arms and probably both legs. Tis a delicate balance based on probability or as our local vicar would say. Let us spray. What are you going to call the mystery frame or is there research to do first?
