Tough to tell from the pic but if it's an outboard BB such as a Shimano ht2 then you'd need an appropriate tool for that. Bb386 and 30mm bbs need a larger tool, some proprietary. Some new ht2 bbs are also smaller cups and need yet another tool. Possibly road versions, not sure MTB ones have shrunk or not (I bought one by mistake).

No, he means that the Hollowtech 2 standard is one size but Shimano then started using a smaller size, more in line with the width of the bb shell.

It won't go over the axle an also seems too small
The one in the link Above says it doesn't fit shimano
I m assuming mine is shimano it's from approx year 2000
I better measure it an get back to you

Doesn't look like shimano to me, more truvativ. Seem to remember the howitzer looking like that and needing a spanner rather than a socket.

How much do you want to keep the BB?

If its not long for this world then a pipe wrench will do it.

I must admit I thought it looked very truvativ howitzer as well. As mentioned, they are a pretty proprietary BB that I think o lt worked with the howitzer crank. What crank arms were fitted?
