what to do?

hi all,
ive just bought a specialized rockhopper mid 90's "fixer upper"
the seat post is seized solid, after many attempts failed to extract it, an engineer said he could remove it for about £15-£20.

it needs a chain, new cables and the frame cleaned up but dont know what to do.
should i keep it for bits or get it fixed up and sell on?
in my opinion its tatty but dont want to pour money into something worth very little fixed up

what would you's do?

will the engineer use heat to get the post out ? if so then you'll need a respray too...........

only way you'll get a good answer is by posting a pic really , you know what they say > a picture speaks a thousand words

hi he said he would bore it as the post is near welded itself. ill get some pics up as soon as i can, im just stuck in 2 minds!

Could well be a waste of money, fixing a tatty bike, but if you like it, then why not? Alternatively spend your cash in the classified ads, here you can get a lot for your money!

Have you tried filling the seat tube with coke form the inside?

tried coke, wd40 etc but no joy. about 3 inches in is removable but past that is stuck solid. got some pics to put up

looks like the seat tubes kernackered. strip it and bin it.

Those are very decent blue-collar frames - I own two - and in principle the basis for a good, solid, no-nonsense build.

But apart from the stuck seatpost problem, yours has some obvious damage to the top of the seat tube. Where the paint is missing around the seat tube top there should be a brazed steel collar, and the tube is obviously very distorted from the efforts to remove the stuck post.

It would be a shame to junk the frame, but I'm not sure how to go about repairing the seat tube, and it's unlikely to be viable from a financial point of view if you can't do the work yourself. You could probably find another frame in better condition for less than the cost of a repair.
