Seller doesn't answer emails, both private and through the RB system.

Comms went dead after I paid with Paypal, even though seller was posting on another forum. When I contacted seller after a couple of days of paying to get acknowledgement that he had received my money, seller confirmed yes and promised to get item in first class post next day - that was 10 days ago.

If this doesn't turn up and he remains illusive, what recourse do I have, either maybe through here or Paypal?

Yours frustratingly

contact john for advice, he may some extra details for the chap.

this has happened a couple of times before on here but frankly it is rare on this forum, i seem to remember one guy sold some stuff accepted payment but had a bad motorbike accident, everyone went mad then found out about it, having said that others have blatently been on the forums and just not sent stuff.

problem is it's impossible to tell the difference.

if john has no extra details for the guy then and only then i would suggest the name and shame approach.

also, (i know i am guilty of this) i sometimes say "post the stuff whenever, no rush" and this has bitten me in the bum a couple of times!

some peoples "no rush" comment can mean weeks to others.

I paid with Paypal gift as requested by the seller. I'm guessing that makes it harder to claim back as it's non-business. I haven't got time to read the link right now (got to go out) but I will later and the other helpful replies - thankyou.

For future, you don't have to pay by paypal gift. That basically means 'you' pay any paypal fees on top, either if you have to pay them when you gift or if you choose to do it normally. There are website to calculate how much extra you should add on top to pay by normal paypal. Negotiate that into you purchase price.

Paypal charge 4% iirc. . . if I don't pay gift, I just add 5% (multiply amount by 1.05)..
Not much use in this case but may come in handy for someone, some time ;)

I'm in same boat (checked OP's Posts and a different seller) right now. So far I'm giving seller the benefit of the doubt: might be good reasons, but, realistically, I've already written it off to experience. If use p'pal gift, just have to take your chances - only oneself to blame.

Once bitten however...

Not quite that clear cut ;) You might have a disgruntled seller if you did that for a £10 it's currently 56p extra. 6p I know ;)

Use this, it's quick and easy http://www.rolbe.com/paypal.htm, click on the flag of your country.

As to the op, it was only 10/11 days ago (assuming it's this one http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... t=#1025888), which isn't that long in some retro-sales. If he missed posting last weekend, it might get posted this weekend. Even protected paypal wouldn't have kicked in by now.
