What the fork

Proto2000

Retro Guru
Bought a bike today, not particularly outstanding. Is a Scott from maybe the 80's and repainted by the seller? The thing that caught my attention was the fork. It's a segmented, Uni and box crown all in one. He says it is a Trek fork only made for 2 years, I have never seen one so asking for those who have to see if I made a deal or no deal. The bike is in fine shape less the clearcoat, working that now.

No idea mate but it looks well-made -- decent welds. Hard to be sure but the paint on the fork looks like it could be original.

Thanks, mystery solved. I searched all over the net to find a Trek fork and came up empty. I was going to use the fork on another build but it's steer tube is too short, guess I'll leave it on the frame since the "custom" paint matches. It will get 1000 wet sanded to remove the overspray clear and recoated with automotive clear finish. Wheelset is XT hubs with Mavic M234 rims. The rest of the parts are low end stuff so will bring it up a notch or two with parts bin bits. Maybe loose the tires, that's a lot of yellow.

Took me a few days to reassemble the bike after a strip down, the bike not me, and I know it is way off period correct, I think it turned out ok. Did shoot a clear over the frame and fork to keep the chips at bay and lessen the overspray that was all over the paint. Most of the parts were on it when I got it so stuck with the restomod theme and added the Salsa stem and Koski bars, original stem and bars were crazy. Also installed a Microshift right thumbie, set to friction as I retained the 7 speed cassette, almost went 9 but figure it's a mostly flat path bike so does not need the 2 extra gears.
