What state is retro biking in at the moment?

People have to be at least 40 for this site to have any relevance given the definition of Retro 1997 and that clock is ticking. Each year that goes by will only mean the target market reduces together with that reducing market having less cash, not great.

The site needs to find sub 40's to keep it alive or it will risk terminal decline.

I'm in my 20's, I started buying retro as it offered a cheaper way to get interesting bikes in the garage.

all my retro bikes I've wanted have been gt bikes and all around the +98 section

Jus personal preference maybe it's cos I'm 31 and those were bikes I wanted bitd but couldn't afford but thanks to this site I've had all of them and still have a passion for gt bikes which I don't think I would of got if it want for this site

Jus a set of spins needed now for a 2001 zaskar and I'll be happy

I've been around since the early years and gotta say, you dont see the names you remember from back then, guess sometimes its just a case of people get distant, I did a few years ago myself when times were hard and real life kicked in but have settled back into a normal way of life and am frequenting the site a lot more, I am now selling stuff more than getting stuck into discussions and have to say its not as easy to move stuff through as it used to be, people are just skint I guess.

Now I just need to get fit again and start doing some retrorides to meet you similar minded fools :)

I only ride retro.............I dont do modern. soooooo Gay

Re:

My tuppence, for me retrobiking is still healthy, although i'm not as active on the forum as i once was and the place is definitely quieter

My garage is full to busting with bikes and bits, to a point where bikes are getting scuffed and scraped which i hate, 4 or 5 bikes yet to build, and all the parts already acquired but so little room to build in, so not buying and selling at the frenzied rate i once was

I cant bear to get rid of any of my bikes, and happy with my collection which will continue to expand just more slowly.

I have built 3 or 4 or more bikes in the last 12 months, none of them really retro, though all steel hardtails and i seem to be moving more towards late nineties and noughties.

Work , children and various unexpected life events makes getting to rides difficult at times, but i have probably done more miles on the turbo and towpaths than i have for a long time.

many other reasons why the place has quietened down a bit have been said.

i have made some great mates through here, and when i do venture further afield i will meet up with them

americans, shenanigans , blah blah blah

oh and the guvnor not turning up for rides ;)

What is the state of retro biking at the moment?

Messy. I got bits everywhere, frames hanging around, wheels all over the place. It's a mess I tell ya!
