What is a Mountain Bike?

Thanks for the correction regarding Richey and TdF,

With regard to the tyres and stuff it is good to acknowledge who did it first to but I don't think there is anything wrong with giving credit to who pushed it hard enough to make it stick.

I'm pretty sure the first time I saw 29'er tyres in a MTB race was Gary Fisher himself overtaking me during a Mountain Mayham, either that or I was hallucinating.

Really don't get why the old Geoff apps/650b tyre story needs bringing up over and over.

Well it is part of the history of off-road riding in Britain. There were links between the Marin Pioneers and Geoff Apps. The Aventura was a specially built off-road bicycle running 650b tyres long before the current trend. These are facts of history. Any attempt to write them out of history should be challenged. This is why. ;)

Not sure I buy that. No problem with the history, just why its brought up over and over.

Everyone (who's interested) knows this now surely

To be honest there's quite a lot that's been bought up in this thread that I wasn't aware of (and I've been hanging around here for a while now on and off). Learnt quite a bit about my own country's history just through the connection from trackers to cycle speedway and the bomb sites of the war. All interesting stuff. I guess the issue is that you will find plenty of people who are sick to the back teeth with hearing about it and some who are either new to it all or have a long standing interest. Which makes me a think that a separate sub-group or section to cover to allow interest and idea to flourish without driving everyone else potty would be useful. :)

The purpose of places like this is to discuss things like this.

The real beauty of it is that you can contribute, read, enjoy it all if it is of interest to you. If it's not then no-one is twisting your arm. Just pass over it on the way to a thread that does interest you. ;)
