What Happened to Campagnolo?

So, just because you dont like it you assume the rest of the world feels this way, too? :) 70% dont care much about the "look" of a group set. They need a bike that works perfectly and is reliable! Especially the racers. They give a serious shaite if their rear mech looks like a 2025 plastic power ranger or if it still looks like the beautiful derailleur they once bought 10 years ago.

What I am trying to say: Youre making a fuss about something that is highly about personal taste - and you generalize your opinion to "the rest of the world".

And ... it's interesting that the thread leads on "what happened to Campagnolo" rather than, an equally contentious-for-some "How is it that no one at SRAM has ever had any aesthetic sense" or "Why is Shimano now so hideous" because a lot of Shimano's 1990s output was visully very pleasing to many of us?

This is mostly about what we have grown up with, considering as beautiful. 1950s cars to me are pig-ugly, 1970s cars almost as much so - but cars of the 80s and 90s, generally look right to me. IMO most modern cars look like tanks made of Lego, but their designers presumably like their lines ...

I wonder if, back in the 1920s, had the internet been around and had people had the amount of time they seem to have now, to ask these questions, we'd have had a spate of "when did bicycles get so ugly with that gear-changer thing hung under the chainstay" and a chorus of "a bike with a single sprocket on it looks like the personification of style and elegance" ...

This is a retro-bike forum, so almost inevitably, it's going to be backward-looking but it's interesting to speculate whether, in 40 years time (it's unlikely I will be able to conduct the experiment) people will be comparing the wares of the various bicycle manufacturers of that time, to those of now and saying - "Yes but that 2024 Shimano GRX rear derailleur was a thing of beauty" ...

What happened? Same thing that happened to the bike industry in general, along with the car and motorcycle industries, which are now mostly going bankrupt. Just check out Jaguar for the flagship brand for doing everything to shoot yourself in the foot.

Where did the 70% as a measurement of the public's opinion come from? If you quoted it not in the literal sense, but were trying to say the majority don't care, then how do you know that even that's the case?

70% of 30% polled wondered what 10% of people thought 90% of the time when another 67% taking part would only offer 56% of their opinion on a measly 11% of a cheese sandwich

When the cheese sandwich was asked it's opinion, it refused, saying it was a Suntour cheese sandwich as Campagnolo was for posh M&S sandwiches anyway

At last. Some cold, hard science 😉

I'm scheduled for a tour of the Jaguar factory in May. I'm really interested to see where they are going, for sure they had to do something radical (sales down by a third in the last 5 years). I'm not a massive fan of the '00', but in think it's more a core concept design for the rest of their new range of electric cars. They'll be using design elements from the 00.

Mind you, it does have the look of a Thunderbirds cars special edition !

Hey pigman ...you are right! Next time I also stick to: "I dont like it - thats why it sucks and EVERYBODY hates it as well".

You didnt even get the general message of my post - but you pick out some rather minor detail or more stylistic device to make an argument about it and babble.

This sir, in psychology is an indicator for low intelligence. Im just saying :)

Now, lets all go back to our personal taste and opinion and make a valid and proven (!) general fact about it.

I, along with all the others of limited intelligence, am waiting for you to quote the sources for your 70%. This is what we are here for on this site; dedicated as it is to absolutely nothing to do with the aesthetics of bicycles. Is that steam emanating from my ears as I try to form words?
