What do you hate seeing on a gorgeous retro bike?

My No1 dislike on a nice retro bike is a rider. But then I like to hang them on a wall.
I see what you did there - loving your work - nice bit of ambiguity.

Proper Life of Brian stylee?

In my defence; I may be over 6' tall but I have short legs and long arms so I like my frames set up this way (aesthetics may also have a certain say in it too ;) ), I put the yellow canti's on because a: they're Ritchey style and b: I've Maguras on my other cro-mega and I like yellow brakes, and BiTD I had the matching neon pink mudguards on my white cro-mega so just couldn't resist these when they came up on eBay!

Feel obliged to own up to loving that, dodgy 'guards an'all  The three points of yellow balance beautifully and pick out the flashes on the frame, top work!

Maybe lacking a few little Cosmic Trail accessories though, or do you ride with the bum-bag...?

Thank you kind Sir...

...and I actually have a variety of bum-bags depending on the length of the ride I have planned

I lent my pink/yellow bag to a mate who left it out in the rain, the tools inside rusted and ruined it; just have the ubiquitous black or black/reflective silver now...

I have one with an insulated pocket to keep your sarnies fresh and two insulated can holders!

Not to be taken seriously, just my little list:

- garage queens
- mountainbikes adapted for road with too much attention on lightness
- gratuitous resprays when the old bike looked decent with its nice patina (the recent green Kona U'Hu around here made me glad remembering it, but I can't understand the red respray - maybe it's just me)
- period correct parts thrown on the bike just for the sake of it
- snowflake spokes
- too newschool parts on classic bikes (say 2008 XT on a 1992 bike)
- new forks and disc brakes on frames without disc mounts
- cheap parts on higher end frames (Alivio on a Zaskar?)
- just too much ano
- Nokon
- thumbshifters on everything
- cheap seatposts
- flex-stems
- wild wild mixes of parts that just look wrong together (no theme)
- generally form over function
- mismatched tires (different brands)
- mismatched hubs (with some exceptions)
- risers plus barends
- housebrand parts on the wrong frame (Specialized cranks on a Trek, anybody? Coda brakes and handlebar on a GT?)
- V-brakes with canti levers (just because you want to keep the shifter combo levers)
- shifters that are higher ranked than their derailleurs
- levers that are higher ranked than their brakes
- low and mid-range bikes drenched in expensive componentry

I can't remember more, but it should be enough.

Happy trails!
Mx
