I remember people being similarly unimpressed with the introduction of safety belt laws.
Now I wouldn't ever drive by choice without one.
It totally pisses me off when I see people with their kids cycling A) Behind them B)Without helmets on.
I have totally got into discussions with them when I see this, the same way I have waved drivers over because they have kids without restraints in their car.
There is a way of approaching people about their irresponsible behaviour, I have rarely had a negative reaction.
When I last had the bravado balls, as a teen, I had serious offs without helmets on on scramblers, and several concussions when kayaking and surfing. Looking back I am surprised to be alive to be honest.
My last off on a motorbike was at very low speed, but the fact it was a tall traillie meant I was swung down into the road, and without my helmet I would have been in hospital for a while. Luckily the lane I fell into was void of vehicles, or I would imagine I would be finding it tricky to post this reply.
So in summary, it may be your legal option to go without a helmet, as it is to do so in many states in the US for motorcycling.
However, you are irresponsible. You have people who care about you and you owe it to them to consider not winding up with serious head injuries for the sake of feeling the wind blowing through your skull, from ear to ear where most people have something to prevent it passing through.
End of.
