Wear your helmet...??

I've been riding on and off road for 25 years and have never hit my head on anything. Hands and knees yes, head never. You clearly see different hazards to me.

dude that is nothing to be proud of. try harder, if you haven't exceeded your limits how can you know where they are?

be interested to know the benefits anti helmet wearers perceive to not wearing one?

I wear a helmet all the time, but occasionally I have forgotten it on a commute ... cliched as it is .... the feeling of wind rushing through my hair is a fantastic sensation, and I'm pretty sure constantly donning a helmet is reducing the amount of hair for the wind to rush through.

Without a helmet it feels good, is less sweaty and you don't get helmet hair.

I ride to get around, to enjoy myself and to keep fit(tish). I have no desire to 'push my boundaries', 'max out', get huge air, impress women or anything else. I'm not a moronic teenager. They used to say that garbage in MBUK bitd, it was crap then and is still crap now. Let's all crash just to show we're testing ourselves (too far)?:roll:

Simple. I save money, almost certainly come to no harm and best of all I don't look like a pussy. And that's fact, not perception.

...it's more photogenic for starters ;)

Agreed with that.

Not everybody is after an ever-increasing degree of white-knuckled-ness (just made that up, it's how I roll). The oft-stated position that everything must be of an increasing degree, more demanding, more extreme, more testing your limits is tedious and short-sighted.

All the same, that's not me fecklessly wading in, one side, or t'other in the helmet, no helmet, helmet debate. Or perhaps that is me, fecklessly wading in - maybe I'm testing my limits...

You know, life has a funny way of dealing with people that make bold statements like that.

You take care.
I usually do. Which is why I see no need for a polystyrene nappy on my head.

Well actually that's your opinion- not a fact!
If the 'best' thing about not wearing a helmet is not looking like a pussy then there's not much hope for you!
Add this to the - well I've never had my head crushed yet argument and it's almost compelling....!

Two good reasons helmets are cool.

My heroes back in the day were pro riders, I cannot think of any of them that went without a helmet, it was an intrinsic part of their image.

Marks out the pros from the plebs in a lot of cases.

Hardly. Pros are by definition trying go as fast/high/far as possible, often on the hardest terrain surrounded by many other riders. Plus it's an opportunity for a sponsor to get their name out there, which shouldn't be missed.

To equate that to me pootling about the streets or local trails is a bit meh.

It's entirely reasonable to have different rules for different arenas. If they were optional I'd likely wear one in a world cup event or road tour because the situation and conditions are completely different. On a wet downhill stage of the TDF doing 50kph+ nose to tail and elbow to elbow with others it's a no brainer. Even if the riders didn't think so for a long time.
