Wear your helmet...??

Cyclists are road users, pedestrians are not.
There is no comparison.
Do I look like a tit? no, I look like a cyclist.
We choose to ride off road and accept the risk of injury involved when we fall.
There are steps you can take to reduce the risk of injury involved when we fall.
If you never fall you're not trying hard enough.

You've obviously never walked very far if you've never crossed a road, or seen someone else do it. Whether it's the main means of travel or not is irrelevant, they use the road. And at nights and weekends they are often drunk. Maybe pubs could supply single use helmets for the walk home? Sparkly pink ones for the ladies? Johnnies are one thing but you can't have enough protection.

In a polystyrene helmet?

Pedestrians cross roads, they are not road users.
The lack of logic in this thread sugests it's probably too late for some to start wearing them as there's very little to damage.

See you again show that the helmet 'Mafia' resort in insults when they feel they are losing the discussion

All i say is you choose to wear i don't. Why people tell to wear one i don't know?? As they don't know me.
If a friend was concerned i would understand. But not a stranger. If i see some one i don't know doing some that i think is dangerous to them. I don't care it's their decision.

I take issue with the way pedestrians and cyclists are compared.
I'm not now nor have I ever told anyone to wear a helmet.

Don't know if this still happens but when I was at school we were given road safety advice and reflective stuff to wear on our jackets.

Which seems odd given we weren't using the road. Thatcher and her overspending on child safety... who'd have thought it?

its what i do for a living..im a road safety officer for norfolk and ive taught 1000s of kids how to behave near roads or how to cross properly and if only 1 kid more than normal stays alive because i taught him then its worth it...i also teach cycling proff too,,,no one does a lesson with me without a lid either ...thems the rules...ps if your old enough then its ya own choice...

I agree Gibbleking.

I personally choose not to wear a helmet, simply because its presence annoys me so much that I can't concentrate on the important things. I hear that complaint from a lot of other people with autism, so it's not like I'll ever be able to "man up" or "get over it". I simply can't function properly in conditions I'm not comfortable with, and having something strapped to my head is one of those things.

A friend of mine has a kid that'll need cycling lessons soon. When the time comes to teach him how to ride on the street, I'll make sure to wear a helmet tho, as I want to set a good example.
It'll be quite loose and therefor pretty much useless in an accident, but I merely want to set an example for the kid and let him learn to use it.
Once he has good control of the bike and the maturity to properly interpret and understand traffic, he's free to make his own choice.
