Poor old Bill. Dead at 32, and after quitting smoking a few years before. Truly a hero of mine, but flawed like the rest of us - in his case way more than most.
Point is, I'm sure if he had the choice he wouldn't of smoked, certainly not as much, and very possibly as a result he might not have died from pancreatic cancer at such a ridiculously young age - christ alone knows we've needed him since to bring a sense of perspective to the events of the last 17 years. Ultimately it's those around him that bore the brunt of the loss - and that is why there was regret on his part, no doubt.
That's something worth taking into account, is it not? That there are other people out there affected by our actions, or by what happens to us; sometimes it's strangers, sometimes casual acquaintances, sometimes very close loved ones. Let's hope we all get the chance to have some final words, like Bill Hicks:
"I left in love, in laughter, and in truth and wherever truth, love and laughter abide, I am there in spirit."
