Another risk of bad flooding today......lets hope it's not going to be as bad as they say, but if you were flooded last week be aware it could happen again today.

To be fair I think the housing on flood planes is the least likely to be flooded (I live in a very flat area close to the river Witham) it's the small valleys etc that get these flash floods as they are the only route for a huge downfall.

In Lincoln it is currently not raining and the BBC last night were warning of biblical end-of-the-world rain for us from 05:00 onwards. We've had rain but only a "normal*" amount.

* by normal I mean for the current weather not a normal July

Fair point but at the end of the day it is not the developer or land owner who carries the ultimate risk it is the poor sod who bought the house and now can't sell and can't get insurance.

In any event there are huge amounts of brown field sites which have yet to be developed, where development could be focused.

An interesting thing I noticed after the floods in Sussex a few weeks back was all the drainage lorries clearing blocked drains - a few days later we had even more rain than that which caused the original flooding and, guess what, no flooding. Can't help but think decent maintenance of the storm drains could have prevented a whole load of problems...

I think that following the extensive flooding around Gloucester there was deep concern that there was a lack of maintenance of all/most of the smaller rivers and waterways which contributed to the problem.

That does seem to be the biggest problem. If the drains and waterways were maintained properly the damage caused would be a lot less.

Yes indeed Ross. The strangest thing to see was the flooding of Felpham, to the east of Bognor Regis. The roads that were flooded were less than 200 metres from the beach. This mystified me. How is it possible that a residential area 200 metres from a beach could be flooded? :?
