wanted retro bike under £80

Marin Fan
Ok so after a tough few weeks I am looking for a special 1990s bike to use for commuting/trail use. (And to get back into the retro scene after modern bikes took over due to planning competition riding)

First of all, I'm not after something top spec, I have my modern bikes for that, but am after something I really fall for (so please forgive me for being fussy, just it took a long time to save this much up after losing my job). I have £80 (posted) so not a huge budget but would like something nice enough that I can enter a few charity rides with. Also I need around a 20" frame.

Am looking locally as well but being in Cornwall kind of limits local choices so thought I'd ask the retro community just in case someone has something available. thanks everyone

Re:

Hi I have a Marin Eldridge grade in lovely condition , 1997 barely ridden in 20.5 " , I'm after slightly more than your offering but maybe down in Plymouth on sat so could possibly meet you there !!! If interested please get in touch and I'll send you some pics to your email ? I'm after £125 for the bike
Cheers

Re:

Sorry kleinalpine. There is no way I could afford that much unfortunately and as I dont drive I couldn't get to plymouth. Thankyou though.

This £80 has taken me 4 months to save up so is literally every penny I have after losing my job in January. Just finally found a voluntary placement for now, not paid but at least it's work and as it's half the distance of my old job I really want to cycle to work.

If you can find cables and tyres/ saddle, I have a 19/20" Eldridge Grade with a a mix of LX/ 500LX for £80 posted.

Complete bike or a bike that needs a little 'fettling' ?

depends how much fettling it needs. I don't mind needing a little bit of work. hoping for something nearly ready to ride as me+working on bikes=disaster lately

Re:

cheers LGF but really trying to steer away from marins now. I've had so many of them that they've lost their appeal to me. I have my muirwoods and that's the only Marin I really want now. Again thankyou though.

really want an old giant, saracen, scott that sort of thing. Nothing fancy just a bit of retro fun.

The bike I have is a Marin Eldridge Grade, so that will be a no then :D

Re:

I have a yellow Saracen Tuff Trax 1988 currently in bits but was complete, I'll have to check size and of course will need reassembly and new cables. £70 posted would see me get my money back on it, let me know if you are interested and I will find time to get pics and measure up.

Cheers, Ash.

Hi
I don't know if you'll have seen it already but I'm selling a really lovely Dawes Ranger on the forum for £70 - see here: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... p;t=346097
It's totally rideable as is, but could be even better if you wanted to upgrade it in future. It's 22", so bigger than you were thinking of, but is also bigger than I'd normally go for and fits just fine (I'm 5'9"). Anyway, maybe it's not right but if you'd like more info or more pics or whatever, let me know.
thanks,
adam
