WANTED: Complete MTB 17-19" suited for city commuting

I'm after a bike that would work for commuting on. Comfortable position, ideally with lugs for rack and guards and with a decent set of gears. Budget up to around £300.

They make pretty good commuting bikes....my work colleague has a 95 BV as a commuter with all manner of panniers, brackets and mudguards bolted to it!
