Walk me through the modern fork minefield

Solo air is supposedly a better ride. I've tried dual and solo on some Revelations back to back. I've got Revs RCT3's with a solo air spring and love them. But the dual air give a little better tunability (is that a word?)

The Maxle is a no brainer. They do stiffen the ride up.

Lock out's I've had both and did prefer the bar mounted one. But that was when I had dual control so there wasn't much space being used on the bar. Now I have seperate bars/brake levers I prefer my fork mounted one.

Thanks for your help, it has certainly been useful to get your thoughts. I was thinking along the same lines, but the Sid was also sitting there. We're you looking at the 2013 or 2014 Reba btw?

Re:

My tuppenceworth...
Rebas are bloomin lovely forks; nice action, good damping, low maintenance, highly adjustable, etc, etc.
They're not the stiffest out there. I'm 13 stone and have had the QR model. at 100mm travel it was fine, but at 120mm it was too wayward, especially under braking. A 15 or 20mm axle will really stiffen it up. Sids would probably be too flexy for me.
Remote lockout is nice to have; just thumbing it for lockout up a short steep climb is ace, but non remote is ok and much cleaner looking.
Come service time, just about every seal, knob, bolt etc is available from TFTuned.

Thanks, appreciate the info. I was thinking that as sids were lighter, and being 13 stone, possibly not the best combination. I'm unlikely to be going crazy with travel, but Reba are set right? If I bought the 100mm version, could I go to 120, or would I need to buy 120 and drop to 100?

I have done a basic service and fettled with the internals on rebas before, seem a little easier to work on than Fox, plus service intervals seem to be longer. Not sure if it is me, but you don't see so many second hand rebas and sids on eBay, but loads of fox??

Suspension forks scare the bejesus out of me. I've only recently opened a set of Judy's to see how they work. I had a set of 2007 Reba's that I ran for 4 years without a service. Just a check for wear and they were holding air. When I finally took them off they still worked and looked like new. Sent them for a normal service and no problems whatsoever. I had a pair of Fox 2006 Talas with an air spring that spent more time being repaired than ridden.

Fair comment. As this will be a rider, not a demonstration of form over function, perhaps the rebas are the way to go.

Just need to decide standard qr over integrated, plus whether rl is enough adjustment to play with, or do I need more, and a handlebar lockout?

handle bar lock out is handy but depends if you go for a dropper post the bars can look a bit cluttered with all the extra buttons

No dropper post for me, I'm perfectly capably of moving my backside around without a switch on the bars to move my seat post. Never quite got these tbh.

So £300 on some Rebas RLT (120mm travel), or £350 on some float RLCs (100mm travel)?

Now, once that is decide, black or white?

It is for this:

Will be mostly running XTm770 I think, plus possibly either black bar/stem/post or ti bar/stem/post. Headset will be blue or black, same for seat post clamp.

Hubs are hope in blue, rims are black 717s.

Disc brakes (hope) are black.

What do we think will work best, black or white?
