thinking about laying my hand into restoring an old French rando but do not want to spend my kidneys for it; I found this Regor Cycles bike which is in a quite sorry state, but could be kind of a project if the frame is not rotten in it structure.

As I never heard of Regor; does anyone know that brand and what kind of bikes did they build over the last decades ?

Any more pictures? Not heard of them ..... which is generally a good thing in my books :cool:

It's hard to say exactly just how many bike and frame builders there were in France for a particular time without doing lot's of research, but consider it into the hundreds. There were many many lesser known local and regional builders apart from the big well known national ones that developed an export trade.

some more I got of it. It's a bit in a sorry state. Should be 650b; I like the racks in frames colour as well as the design.

Looks like it's the same bike as displayed in tontonvelo forum :) Using google translate it is mentioned that this Regor bike from the 50s is or was on Ebay and looks like the one I have the pics. from. Currently for sale here in Austria - it must be the same bike (minus front headlamp), as I dont think that there are 2 of the kind arround.

:( :oops: ..... I don't get it. It's not the first time I see botched French headsets here on show worthy bikes. There are about 4 types of headsets with their own particular locking mechanisms and this is something really cobbled together from bits on an otherwise stunning bike.

Very early 50s at a guess (similar things to the Peugeot PH60 1952 above) but the frame and parts are much more developed; the triple chain set, front mech and very wide ratio set-up for the period is quite unique I think.

If it's going cheap, could be a cool project. Back on the first page we gave some advice. A full restoration would be a money pit IMHO and potentially loose some character, but something like this could make an interesting utility type bike running it single speed or 4 speed. The stick shift front mech has disappeared, and not surprising because they are very very valuable. Hard to see, but those brake callipers are from the late 40s I believe and have specific frame brake bosses like some Peugeots, so make sure they are in good working order if you decide to buy.

thanks for advice and pointing me to the first pages for advice. I feel I need some advice on that topic - as a total newby in the world of 40s, 50s and 60s bikes. My interests in the past had been on 80s and 90s bikes, as well as modern ones. I would say I can dismantle and complete bikes from that area, but that older stuff with different standards where I never thought there are even ones, could make it difficult for me. But I like projects and the challenge. Pricewise the seller offered the bike for € 200,- If thats a reasonable price ? - I dont know, especially as you said it had been canibalized for some valuable parts.

Price wise, it's not that easy; I'm in France and can pick-up bikes from this period from very lucky tip, house or charity finds for little money or spend in excess of 700 € for something rarer and in good condition. Personally I would say €200 is on the high side for a project bike, but then again I don't know what kind of values bikes are in Austria. For sure it's a pretty unique bike. Appears in almost ready to ride condition too, most likely nothing is seized.

I'd say If the headset, BB and brakes work fine enough, and structurally there is no really bad rust make an offer for 150 € and see what happens; with the economic crisis at the moment prices are generally very low. You can then make decisions about period correct or not, newer wheels, hub gears, saddle, cranks, freewheels, gears, etc. etc. later bit by bit.

@Guinessisgoodforyou & @M_Chavez - what would you say?

My pricing may be off, prices are all over the place here anyway. Between rural and city can make a 100€ difference at least.
