It's interesting doing the price comparison - the BMC is outrageously over priced, the Brick Lane Bike is approaching something comparative in terms of function, looks and quality. Decathlon are known for producing reasonable bikes at the budget and low end; that one for £400 is at an interesting price point. Their 90s MTBs were the same and some of the higher end ones are very sought after for making solid performing commuters (every so often I swing by a French site dedicated to work and urban cycling

Suppose it's no surprise to us here - the choice of buying a new city bike at 400 € versus picking up a retro high end cheap Porteur and spending left over money on a handful of new parts and tyres is still a no brainer - the quality difference remains considerable.
