We need Mavic catalogues for conclusive proof. I have seen lots of Mavic 650b rims. There was a rumour that Mavic binned stacks of 650b rims in the 80s because they couldn't sell them. Edit maybe closer inspection of Daniel Rebour drawings would benefit.

We here in Austria are using the word "Kotschützer" (Kot=mud // Schützer=guards) while in Germany "Schutzblech" is the word they usw more commonly
