vanhulsteijn - not strictly retro but....

First of all, I apologise for the pic. The cameraphone seemed to have a fit and not produce the image correctly!

This is the second unusual and interesting bike I have seen in the last two trips to Morrisons.

It is fitted out with 600 Arabesque. very arresting bike. The guy who owned this came up as I was taking a shot. He did the Cat and Fiddle the other week, so I dare say some of you have seen this already.

Worth a picture, I'm just sorry for the cut out part.

I kind of like it, in a strange way... did the owner tell you anything about it? tubing? maker?

Van Hulsteijn make their bikes in their own workshop. Website doesn's say anything about what tubing is used. Very elegant looking bikes I think and certainly nonconforming. Seen their bikes around Eindhoven two years ago (prototypes I guess), good to see they're still going :)

Is the shiny bit up front the exposed fork steerer? I really like it; with all those sweeping curves, it looks very graceful.

Good work on just popping down to the supermarket on it too :D

I saw one "in the wild" a few days ago. I had my doubts when I saw it on a picture but now I'm sure that I don't like it. The curves of the frame make it very retro yet the components are all of the flashy green hipster kind.

I doubt and I hope it isn't. If so I would think you would have continious play in your headset and dirt and moist could enter easily into the lower cup. Moreover a not so stiff front end would be likely.
