Loose a load of weight, any friction shifter will do and last for ever.

Here you go. Sounds crazy until you try it. Means you can get a good steel frame build down to low 20s lbs, so it will eat hills in your ‘hill’ gear. Slip into the big ring for down hill; middle everywhere else.

Paul’s tensioner is pricey, but a shimano alfine does the job well for the sake f a few grams.
