Unknown Vintage frame-set

always-cycling

Retro Newbie
I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this article, but here goes.

I've recently bought a barn find sports bike (see image). Sadly, the seller had no idea of the maker (belonged to deceased family member).

Date wise, I would guess at 1950s (but am open to suggestions). Sadly, there is nothing significant about the frame, apart from the location of frame number. It's stamped on the bottom head lug.

The vast majority of cycle builders in the 50s usually stamped in specific places.....drop-outs, bottom bracket, seat lug, fork crown.

This is the 1st frame I've seen with this feature.
Can anyone identify it.

Re:

No idea on make but frame looks possibly late 30s-40s with newer brakes. Some cool parts on there. Williams chain ring might date it?

Re:

I doubt if it will be recognised. We need to have some detail close up pictures. The bottom head lug is a cheap standard type probably used on a million bikes.
Headclip suggests late 1930s, up to early post war, but the front forks may not be original (no brazed on mudguard eyes). Also looks like the remains of a Sturmey Archer gear control from the 1930s.
