Univega shock placement

My 98 Univega has 3 different shock mounting holes on the frame, can anyone explain the different characteristics each may give?
I have a fox float air shock on its way to replace the current coil & oil and hopefully shave a bit more weight from the bike.

I'm pretty sure its the amount of rear suspension travel.the lower the hole,the more travel.the spring curve will probably change as well but I wouldn't be able to tell you how.hope this helps
